Welcome to Manchester City of Languages!

We wish to build a network of links, collaborative initiatives and partnerships with practitioners in public service providers, local authorities, schools, community groups, cultural institutions and universities to promote awareness of multilingualism and language diversity, to respond to the challenges of multilingual cities and to harness the benefits of language skills.

As a founding group we draw on our expertise and experience in:

  • Working with families and schools to appreciate the benefits of bilingualism and raise confidence in family and heritage languages
  • Organising public events to celebrate multilingualism
  • Consulting charities, public sector organisations and legal practitioners on provisions for translation and interpreting and language analysis
  • Providing training for practitioners in a variety of sectors including education, health care, and emergency services on language and cultural diversity
  • Working with cultural institutions to develop a portfolio of activities and digital platforms on language diversity
  • Consulting local authorities and educational institutions on reaching out to emerging communities, and supporting the formation of community initiatives
  • Securing funding grants for collaborative projects involving language minorities and migrant communities
  • Carrying out research on language needs and language provisions and drafting policy reports and recommendations

We would be delighted to discuss ideas and projects; please get in touch through our contacts page.
